List of Emergency Evacuation Shelters and Evacuation Centers
Evacuate to an Emergency Evacuation Shelter to protect yourselves when a disaster occurs. These are one of sites that are provided for use when a landslide occurs, a river overflows or your home is in danger of collapse. Depending on the type of disaster such as typhoons or earthquakes, there will be different evacuation shelters such as school grounds and parks or plazas designated by the city beforehand.
An Evacuation Center is a location where people who are unable to continue living in their collapsed or damaged home can take shelter as evacuees. Following an earthquake, Evacuation Centers will be opened for use after the buildings have been confirmed as safe places.
Emergency Evacuation Shelters (Tsunami Evacuation Buildings (Hinan Biru))
Hamamatsu City has agreements with building owners to designate certain buildings as Tsunami Evacuation Buildings for taking shelter from incoming tsunamis. These are strong buildings that were within the range plus 2 km of the tsunami during the Ansei Tokai Earthquake (a previous large earthquake).
What is a Tsunami Evacuation Building? Tsunami Evacuation Buildings are buildings that people can take shelter in when a tsunami is, or may be coming. Hamamatsu City has an agreement with the owner and management of the building. Note: Tsunami Evacuation Buildings are not Evacuation Centers for people to live at if they have lost their home.

The Role of Evacuation Centers
Evacuation Centers will be established in 184 different locations, such as school gymnasiums. These are locations where people who are no longer able to live in their own home can live temporarily during a disaster. They also provide food and other supplies to their local area. People who are still able to live in their own homes can come to receive supplies from Evacuation Centers.
How are the Evacuation Centers managed?
Evacuation Centers are managed by evacuees. Immediately after an earthquake, independent disaster prevention squads, local disaster prevention units, and the managers of the evacuation facilities (schools) will help manage and run the Evacuation Centers. Everyone should help each other out and obey the rules when living at an Evacuation Center.

Notes on Evacuation
Please do not enter any area other than the Evacuation Shelter without permission.
There are no food supplies at Tsunami Evacuation Buildings, so please take food with you when you evacuate.
Please take due care not to damage evacuation facilities. If you accidentally damage a facility, please notify the owner.
Facilities may be locked up at night or during holidays, depending on the facility. Please check the “notes” column of the PDF file.
When a tsunami warning or tsunami advisory is lifted, please return to your home or move to an Evacuation Center.
