High schools are for students who have graduated from junior high school. In Japan, more than 90% of students go on to high school. To enter a high school, a student must take an examination. There are also schools that have a recommendation entrance system.There are many kinds of high schools. Classes are divided according to content: schools can offer regular courses, special courses (technical, business, agricultural and foreign language courses etc.) and general studies courses. Schools are also classified according to the hours classes are held; daytime school called zennichi sei , part-time called teiji sei , and correspondence schools called tsushin sei . There are also schools that have special admission systems for foreign students.
Universities and junior colleges are schools for students who have graduated from senior high school. To enter a university or junior college, you must take an entrance examination. You may be able to take the entrance examination if it can be determined that you have obtained an education equivalent to that of a Japanese senior high school student even if you have not graduated a Japanese junior high school or senior high school. Some universities and junior colleges have special admission systems for foreigners.
