 Questions about daily life

Q. My bicycle (or motorbike, etc.) is not where I left it. What should I do?

A.It may have been stolen, or it may have been towed/removed by the authorities because it was left in a no-parking zone.

If your bicycle/motorbike has been towed/removed to the Municipal Bicycle Depot (Jitenshadō Hokansho), this is the process you must follow to retrieve it:

(1) Contact the Municipal Bicycle Depot

(2) When going to retrieve your bicycle/motorbike, bring
fee (bicycle: 1020 yen; motorscooter: 2050 yen; motorcycle: 4110 yen); your key; your personal seal (hanko or inkan); some form of personal identification (Alien Registration Card, driver’s license, etc.); and the Municipal Bicycle Depot Notification (only if one has been sent to you).
*Retrieval can only be done on weekdays, 8:30-17:15.
The depot is closed on weekends and holidays.

Q. I want to learn Japanese. Where can I receive Japanese language instruction?

A.You can take Japanese classes at the Hamamatsu Foundation for International Communication and Exchange (HICE) or at the Hamamatsu Foreign Resident Study Support Center.

Q. I'm interested in participating in international exchange activities. What should I do?

A. Advance reservation is required.

Q. The garbage I put out was not collected. Why not?

A. It is likely that one of the following reasons applies:

1. You put the garbage out on the wrong day

Garbage collection days differ according to your area of residence; please confirm the garbage collection days for your area.

2. You did not sort your garbage properly

There may be a red “Rule Violation” [rūru ihan] sticker affixed to your garbage bag; please follow proper garbage disposal rules in the future.

3. It may be a type of garbage that is not handled by municipal garbage collection services

If you wish to dispose of an electrical appliance such as a television, refrigerator, washing machine/dryer, air-conditioner or PC, please follow the link in the next Question

Q. I want to dispose of an electrical appliance (television, refrigerator, washing machine/dryer, air-conditioner, PC). What should I do?

Municipal garbage collection services do not handle televisions, refrigerators, washing machine/dryers, or air-conditioners. Instead, you must take care of disposal by:

Televisions, refrigerators, washing machine/dryers, or air-conditioners

●Asking an electrical appliance retailer to do it for you:
A professional collection/recycle service, a recycle shop or the retailer where you are buying a replacement electrical appliance can dispose of such items
●Disposing of the appliance by yourself:
1. Purchase a Recycle Fee (risaikuru ryōkin) stamp at your local post office and obtain a Proof of Payment Certificate (harai komi shōmeisho)
(payment processing will require an additional fee).
2. Bring your appliance to an officially approved disposal site
Items to Bring:Appliances along with your Recycle Ticket and Proof of Payment Certificate
Disposal site:Hamamatsu Metal Work Cooperative or Nippon Tsū’Un, Inc., Hamamatsu Branch Hamamatsu Butsuryū Sentā
Hours of operation: weekdays: 9:00-noon, 13:00-17:00;
Saturdays:9:00-12:00、13:00-15:00
