Reconstruction of Hamamatsu Castle by Yoshiharu Horio

In 1590, the Toyotomi clan’s senior vassal Horio Yoshiharu was stationed in Hamamatsu Castle in place of the Tokugawa clan. It is believed that the Horio clan built a high stone wall around the main keep enclosure and main bailey of Hamamatsu Castle, and built tile-roofed buildings including the main keep itself. The Horio clan developed the castle centered on the main keep, facing east to take advantage of the steep terrain of the Mikatabara Plateau.
