Watch out for Frozen Water Pipes
< 水道管の凍結に注意してください >

As the cold season approaches, we ask that our citizens take sufficient measures to prevent their water pipes from freezing –as even in Hamamatsu’s relatively mild climate, water pipes may still occasionally freeze.

Places especially prone to freezing:
Outdoor water pipes, water heaters, boilers, etc.

Prevent freezing:
Wrap heat insulation materials around your water pipes. Leave faucets slightly open, so they drip.

If your pipes freeze:
When pipes freeze: Wait until the pipes thaw. Help by pouring lukewarm water on the pipes.
When pipes burst:
(1) Close the main valve, and wrap the pipe with vinyl tape, etc.
(2) Call a professional plumber for repairs.

Oysters from Lake Hamana

Oyster cultivation has long flourished at Lake Hamana, whose large oysters are characterized by their heavy weight, abundant minerals, and rich flavor. These oysters are enjoyed fried or cooked in hot pots.
