Certificates of Alien Registration Are No Longer Valid.

As of July 8, 2015, the certificates of alien registration [gaikokjin toroku shomeisho] for permanent residents are no longer valid.
If you are a permanent resident and do not yet have a residence card [zairyu kado], we ask that you please go to your nearest Regional Immigration Bureau office or branch office (excluding airport offices or branch offices) as soon as possible and apply to be issued a residence card.

Furthermore, although you will not lose your residence status if you have not been issued a residence card, we ask that you please keep in mind that without one, you cannot use the Special Re-entry System [minashi sainyukoku kyoka].
