Hamamatsu Castle


Hamamatsu Castle can be found downtown. Built in 1568 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, it has been defended by a number of different lords since. The tower has been rebuilt, but the original stonewall remains. The inside is now a museum of Hamamatsu and the surrounds have become a park.

Five minutes by bus from the platform 1 at the bus terminal (north exit of JR Hamamatsu Station). Get off at ‘Shiyakusho-mae’

Hamamatsu Festival Hall

Hamamatsu Festival is held every May, from the 3rd to the 5th. In Hamamatsu Festival Hall, historical documents related to the festival, floats and flags are on display. There is also a simulator that allows you to experience the festival itself all year round, with astonishingly realistically reproduced sounds and sights!

Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments

This is the only municipally owned museum of its kind in Japan. It contains a collection of over 2,000 ethnic musical instruments ranging from those from Central and South America, Africa and Asia to a collection of 17th to 19th century European pieces.
