On January 20, 2016 (local time), the mayor of Hamamatsu, Yasutomo Suzuki, participated in the NAMM Show being held in Anaheim, California, USA, and made a speech on musical city development in the meeting on international cooperation.
The NAMM Show is held in January every year and is the world’s largest convention relating to the musical instrument industry.
This was the first time that the head of a local government gave a speech at the NAMM Show, and was realized through an invitation from Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM, the convention organizer.
Mayor Suzuki spoke in front of reporters from major magazines and the representatives of the music culture industry and musical instrument industry from around the world about Hamamatsu’s musical instrument industry and its project strategies as a member city of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The mayor also introduced the upcoming World Music Festival in Hamamatsu 2016 and Sound Design Festival 2017 to be held by Hamamatsu City. The audience showed great interest in his speech.
