A special session was held on April 23rd, Saturday, where the Mayor made a presentation reporting on the devastation of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the different responses from local governments in Japan. During the special session, the Mayor proposed the adoption of the ‘UCLG ASPAC Special Statement Regarding the Great East Japan Earthquake’, which states that members will be willing to: 1. Implement the conclusion of a reciprocal disaster reduction agreement between UCLG member cities and organize a system where disaster reduction information can be shared between the member cities, and 2. To strengthen the cooperation between International organizations, central governments, NGOs and community organizations. The special statement was recognized and adopted by all the delegates at the meeting.
In addition, on Sunday April 24th, the Mayor reported on the outcomes of the ‘3rd UCLG ASPAC Congress 2010 Hamamatsu’ held in Hamamatsu October last year.
