Mayor of Hamamatsu meets with the Brazilian Ambassador to Japan
On May 12th the Brazilian Ambassador to Japan, Andre Amado, met with Mayor Suzuki at Hamamatsu City Hall to discuss a range of issues including education for Brazilians in Japan and the establishment of a Brazilian consulate. Ambassador Amado explained that “the education of Brazilian children is an important issue in regards to the establishment of a consulate,” and called for an increase in the number of Portuguese-speaking school teachers. In response, Mayor Suzuki outlined the support that schools for Brazilian children receive from the city as well as other policies currently being implemented. Mayor Suzuki declared Hamamatsu would “urge the national government to implement measures addressing the arrival of Brazilian immigrants while improving communication between Hamamatsu and Brazil.”
