Event to attract overseas companies
This year Hamamatsu, with the support of JETRO, has been making efforts to attract overseas companies to the city. As part of these efforts, representatives from five companies from America, France and Finland visited Hamamatsu between 17th and 19th September, where they visited local businesses and research associations. On the 18th, a welcome reception was held for the visitors. In his address, the Mayor of Hamamatsu discussed the history of industry in Hamamatsu, which has produced numerous global companies. The Mayor promoted the Hamamatsu Optronics Cluster, a joint venture between industry, universities and the government designed to create a leading international optics and electronics centre, and Hamamatsus pleasant living environment and excellent geographical location, as he appealed to the overseas companies to locate their Japanese offices in Hamamatsu. The representatives of the foreign companies responded extremely positively, praising Hamamatsu as a vibrant city with thriving industries. It is hoped that the overseas companies that participated in the trip will establish operations in Hamamatsu in the near future.
