Japan’s Only

Yaramaika Spirit!
From Hamamatsu, City of Creativity
Number one in Japan. Japan’s Only. Japan’s First. These are just a few phrases that embody the yaramaika spirit.

Hamamatsu Symphony OrchestraJapan’s OnlyAmateur Orchestra Foundation
Hamamatsu Symphony Orchestra
Formed in 1976 in response to a call by the Hamamatsu Junior Chamber, the orchestra is composed entirely from the general public. After each concert, an executive committee chairperson is chosen from among the members, with this person managing the construction of programs along with behind-the-scenes work. Come see the orchestra play; you’ll find yourself falling in love.

White OnionsJapan’s OnlyProduction Center for White Onions
White Onions
White onions are the finest and correspondingly the most expensive onions in Japan. With a tender, juicy and mild flesh, these onions can be eaten raw without washing them first in water.

Washizawa CavesJapan’s OnlyFlat-Roofed Limestone Cave
Washizawa Caves
Eons of groundwater flowing through the mountains dissolved the limestone to create this cave, called “fuuketsu” because cool winds issue from it during the summer. It is said that fallen warriors took refuge here during the 14th century.

Chopin MonumentThe World’s OnlyReplica of the Chopin Monument
Chopin Monument
This statue was presented to Hamamatsu by Warsaw in commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Sister Cities in Music and Culture. The replica is two-thirds the size of the original in Warsaw and was the first to be sent out of the country.
